Getting Started
Do you see clients in-person?
Yes, I see clients both in-person in San Jose and online throughout CA.
What age range do you work with?
I work with individuals who are 18 and older.
What happens after I reach out?
I’ll respond within 24 hours on weekdays and offer times to schedule a consultation call. This will give us time to say hello so you can get a feel for whether you’d like to work with me and I can understand whether my approach fits what you’re looking for.
What if I decide I don’t want to move forward?
That’s ok! I encourage meeting with multiple therapists to find a good fit.
And after I schedule my first session?
I will email you some paperwork, which includes practice policies and an intake questionnaire, as well as information for joining our first session, whether online or in-person.
What’s the office like?
Cozy and relaxed. I’m happy to share more information if you have any questions about what to expect on arrival, etc., and I’m also happy to accommodate for sensory needs where possible. The office has art supplies, fidgets, weighted stuffed animals, a window, and my dog Louie is often there.
Other FAQ
How much does therapy cost?
My fee is $175 per 50 minute session.
Do you take insurance?
No, I don’t take insurance. I am happy to provide a superbill upon request, which has information for you to submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement, depending on your plan.
How does payment work?
I collect payment at each session; they cannot be paid in advance or in bulk. Payments are accepted by credit card via an online portal.
Will I need to come every week?
In the beginning, yes. It’s important for us to spend time getting acquainted and aligning on goals and approach. More sporadic meetings work against needed momentum in this area. We may revisit frequency based on needs and progress over time.
Which modalities do you use?
It depends on the kind of work we are doing. For experiential work and deeper processing, I use internal family systems (IFS)/parts work and coherence therapy, weaving in somatic elements. However, at times our work may focus more on practical strategies for understanding and accommodating your neurotype, etc. My integrated approach is informed by an understanding of trauma and the nervous system, mindfulness, and respect for complexity and fluctuating capacity.
Who might not be a good fit?
If you are experiencing frequent crisis or looking for therapy that is purely skills-based, structured with homework, or solutions-focused, a therapist who works primarily in those approaches may be a better fit. If you aren’t sure, you’re welcome to reach out and we can discuss it together.
What if we’re not a good fit after we meet?
It is possible that we meet and determine we are not the best fit after all, either in the first couple of sessions or at some point into our work together. If this happens, I am happy to support you in identifying an approach that is a better fit and offer a referral.
What is the first session like?
Many folks are nervous coming in for the first session with a new person, and I get that. I hope to set you at ease as we get a sense of one another. Any feelings, hesitations, or questions you have are welcome, but there’s no pressure to come prepared with anything. It is enough to show up.
I see you’re into art. Are you going to make me do collages?
I would never, but the supplies are available! Some clients like using art, some don’t.
